5 Refreshing Recipes for Your Dog
Summer can be a tough time for our furry friends, especially when temperatures rise. There's a lot we can do to help our dogs stay cool and make summer easier for them.
Here are 5 refreshing recipes you can easily make at home to keep your dog cool and hydrated. We guarantee they'll love them!

1. Yoghurt and Fruit Dog Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of yoghurt. Preferably plain and sugar-free
- 1/2 cup of fresh fruit. Make sure the fruit you choose is safe for your dog: strawberries, banana, blueberries, apple, pear, watermelon...
- Optional: 1 tablespoon of honey or cinnamon, which is great for your furry friend
A classic recipe that's guaranteed to be a hit! Plus, you can make loads of variations with different types of fruit. Simply chop the fruit into small pieces and mix it with the yoghurt and honey or cinnamon. Then pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once solid, give your furry friend a cube and let them enjoy licking it as it melts. Super easy, cool and delicious!
2. Chicken Broth Cubes
Ingredients:
- Low-sodium chicken broth. Make sure it contains no onion or garlic
For this recipe, we follow the same method as before. Simply pour the chicken broth into an ice cube tray or a small container and freeze. Ready to give to your dog!
3. Carrot or Watermelon Dog Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- Carrot or watermelon
- Water
This recipe is super quick, easy and healthy — it ticks every box! Simply blend the watermelon or carrot with a little water until you get a purée-like texture. Then pour into an ice cube tray or a small tub and you're done!
4. Refreshing Coconut Drink for Dogs
Ingredients:
- Coconut water with no added sugar or additives
- Water
If the watermelon or carrot ice cream is quick and easy to make, this recipe is even easier. Simply mix water with a splash of coconut water (with no added sugar or additives). Chill it in the fridge and serve it to your furry friend as a drink. Their mouth will be watering!
5. Salmon Jelly for Dogs
Ingredients:
- Salmon
- Peeled prawns
- Carrot
- Plain gelatine
Jellies make a brilliant treat for furry friends. You can add the ingredients blended, or leave some whole. This way your dog will have even more fun exploring different textures!
Salmon also has loads of benefits. It reduces cholesterol and improves joints, skin and coat. It's also packed with Omega 3 and unsaturated fats. It's a real superfood!
To make the jelly, boil the salmon and carrot in a saucepan. After 15 minutes, add the prawns and cook for a further 5 minutes, then once that time is up, separate the broth from the ingredients. Meanwhile, dissolve 2 grams of plain gelatine in 10ml of cold water. In a bowl, mix the chopped or blended ingredients, the cooking broth and the water with the gelatine. Fill the ice cube tray or container and freeze. Ready for your furry friend to cool down!
Keeping your dog hydrated and happy during the hottest days of summer is easier than you think. As well as being healthy and nutritious, these treats are a brilliant way to show your pet how much you love them. They'll thank you with happy licks!
